Bizkaia Provincial Council firefighters deliver thirty bikes to Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA in Basauri

A project like Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA allows you to meet many people and live many curious experiences and situations, and sometimes also linked to the world of professional cycling. This last idea comes from the collection of bikes that Ángel López, the project’s logistics manager, has carried out this week at the Bizkaia Provincial Council’s Fire Station.

At its facilities in Basauri, López collected some thirty bicycles that the fire brigade has been collecting in recent days. Among the firemen who took part in the load was José Ramón Uriarte, a name that will be familiar to fans of this sport.

Uriarte (Igorre, 1967) was a professional cyclist for a decade: between 1990 and 1997 he competed in the ranks of the Banesto team, where he was one of Miguel Indurain’s most trusted men, who he accompanied in four of his five victories in the Tour de France and in one of his two successes in the Giro d’Italia. His last two years as a professional were spent with the Festina team. His list of victories includes the overall victory in the Vuelta a Chile, stages in the Challenge of Mallorca, the Portuguese Trofeo Joaquim Agostinho Trophy, the now defunct Vuelta a los Valles Mineros and the Trofeo Luis Ocaña.

This collection has been carried out in the framework of the collaboration of Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA with the Saluganda sobre ruedas project and the Sustainable Schools initiative promoted by Nergroup. These bicycles will be tuned up by the children of the AMP of Pinto to join those donated by the Arturo Soria School of Madrid and will be sent to Uganda in the coming months.
