EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team receives an invitation for the Giro d’Italia 2022

The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team will compete for the second consecutive year in the Giro d’Italia after the race organisers confirmed on Monday 28th February the WildCards for the next edition. In 2021, the year of its debut in the category and its debut in the race, the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team achieved a stage win with Lorenzo Fortunato at the top of Monte Zoncolan.

Along with EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, the corsa rosa has extended an invitation to the Italian-licensed teams Drone Hopper – Androni Giocattoli and Bardiani CSF Faizane’. The Belgian Alpencin-Fenix automatically receives a place for being the best team in the ProTeam category ranking in 2022. The peloton will be completed by the 18 worldTour formations.

“This is the news of the year for us, the most beautiful and the most awaited, the whole team is motivated and can’t wait for the day of the start from Budapest”, says Fran Contador, general manager of the team.

“For us it is a great satisfaction”, adds Alberto Contador. “We are very happy to have received this invitation. For the team it is also a relief, because our season is based, above all, on the Giro d’Italia. We are a new, young, fresh team… we already took part in the Giro last year and I think we did very, very well. I think that this year we can improve on last year’s performance and be great protagonists. On a personal level, it’s a race that I carry in my heart and the fact that I can experience it with my own team is something special”.

The next edition of the Giro d’Italia will be held between 6 and 29 May and features a route of more than 3,400 kilometres. The Corsa Rosa, that in this occasion will finish in Verona, presents an added attraction for the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team of the hand of the ‘Grande Partenza’. The race starts in Hungary, with three stages on Hungarian soil, a very important territory for the structure because of Kometa’s interests in the country.
