Extremadura will host the fifth edition of the Marcha Alberto Contador: Plasencia, start and finish of a route with passes through Monfragüe and El Piornal

The event will take place on 2 May. The Alberto Contador Foundation and the Directorate General of Sports of the Government of Extremadura and the Department of Sports and Innovation of the City Council of Plasencia agreed that Extremadura, and specifically the town of Plasencia in Cáceres, will host the fifth edition of the race.

The Alberto Contador Race was born in 2011 and after holding its first three editions in Pinto (Madrid), in 2014 it began to be held in other geographical locations: Cantabria, specifically the Cabárceno Nature Park, hosted the event.

Alberto Contador, who a week later will take part in a new edition of the Giro d’Italia, will take part as usual in a race that on this occasion will propose two routes (a long-distance of 175 km, a medium-distance of 150 km) that includes a passage through the Monfragüe Natural Park, the cherry plantations of the Jerte Valley and the Puerto del Piornal, the mountain pass that rises above the highest village in Extremadura.
