The Salt Pedal Project of Escola El Pla, the latest destination of Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA

The Bicis para la Vida by  ŠKODA project travelled this Saturday to the town of Salt (Girona) to deliver 20 bicycles to the Salt Pedal Project, which is promoted by the Escola El Pla school of this town. In this donation, ŠKODA accompanied the expedition of the project Romà Boule, from Bicicletas sin Fronteras.

The Girona`s NGO, which since 2012 has been working with the bicycle as the backbone of many of its initiatives, all with the aim of promoting education, development and integration through cycling, joined this donation by providing new bicycle helmets and inflators.

The Salt Pedal educational project is part of a training course in Physical-Sports Activities in the Natural Environment, where the bike enables workshops to be held in which, among other things, middle school students can act as teachers for primary school pupils.

Pedro, one of the teachers at the school: “Bicycles are a very relevant educational resource within the various methodologies we work with at this school. One of these lines of work consists of developing talents. We dedicate some afternoons a week to working on them: we do cycling, cooking, robotics, gardening… The bike is a great resource for pupils in the first, middle and upper cycle, and it is a very transversal resource. Thanks to them we can work on sustainability, mechanics… Work that also includes outings to the environment, whether more natural or more urban. The children are very involved with the school and we have even developed extracurricular activities linked to cycling, with a lot of participation. Thanks to Bicicletas sin Fronteras and the Fundación Alberto Contador we can take our projects much further”.

Romà Boule, founder of Bicicletas sin Fronteras adds: “We are particularly excited about this first joint delivery at the Salt school, as it is one of the projects that we feel closest to us and that best shows the transformative power of bicycles. The alliance between the two entities is the logical path to follow; after years of doing similar work, both projects will benefit from the added experience and knowledge”.

“We always emphasise that each and every Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA delivery is special in itself, but in the case of this action that we are developing today in Salt, we are joining forces with one of the NGOs with the longest tradition in working with bikes. We have many points in common with Bikes without Borders and this donation is the first realisation of a synergy through which we will be able to give a second life to many bikes in many new locations”, says Paco Romero, head of the social area of the Fundación Contador.
