Alberto Contador, at the opening of the 2023 edition of Festibike with the talk ‘Querer es poder’
The twentieth edition of Festibike, the most important meeting of the bicycle sector in Spain, is being held at the Las Rozas Exhibition Centre between Friday 8 and Sunday 10 September, three days that will allow the industry to meet with fans, lovers and the curious. The fair, however, had its own particular prologue this Thursday afternoon with an official inauguration by several authorities in the presence of Alberto Contador.
The cyclist from Pinto and president of the Contador Foundation was accompanied by José de la Uz, mayor of Las Rozas; Alberto Tomé, General Director of Sports of the Community of Madrid; and Guillermo de Portugal, director of Festibike. Afterwards, Contador was in charge of starting the programme of contents of the Festibike Congress, the series of lectures and talks that revolve around the bicycle and its environment with a focus on education and debate. Aurum Bikes, the bicycle brand created by Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso, will also have a stand at the fair.
The talk ‘Querer es poder’ brought the audience closer to the evolution of Alberto’s sporting career from its origins to his professional years, a journey that included anecdotes about the clashes with his brother Fran and also served to focus on a pathology such as stroke and the benefits of cycling, and sport in general, as a means of rehabilitation. “Want is power is a phrase that my mother told me before I underwent surgery for my cavernoma and that motto has accompanied me from that moment on, not only in my career, but in my life”, he recalled with regard to the title of his speech.
