Cofidis donates 25,000 euros to the Alberto Contador Foundation
The financial entity converts the kilometres covered on the Pedalón Solidario exercise bikes during the 2019 Vuelta Ciclista a España into euros. The company thus reaffirms its commitment to the solidarity initiative that last year saw the participation of cycling enthusiasts from more than 20 Spanish cities. The donation will go towards the purchase of material adapted for the practice of cycling by people with functional diversity.
Once again this year, Cofidis, a financial institution specialised in granting consumer loans and financing projects, has converted the kilometres covered during the Solidarity Pedallion, the solidarity initiative carried out as part of the Tour of Spain, into euros. During this ninth edition, cycling fans in more than 20 Spanish cities ran 24,637 kilometres, which have been converted into a donation in euros for the Alberto Contador Foundation.
The check presentation ceremony, held in Madrid, was attended by Manuel Fernández, Cofidis Spain’s Director of Customer Relations, and the heads of the Alberto Contador Foundation, the cyclist from Pinto and winner of the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, Alberto Contador, and his brother Fran Contador. The Foundation will allocate the amount both to the development of adapted cycling programs and to the acquisition of specific material for the practice of this sport among people with disabilities.
With this donation, Cofidis reaffirms its commitment to adapted cycling. The collaboration with the non-profit organization, initiated in recent years, has allowed to carry out various projects of training, road education and social integration through cycling. “Thanks to initiatives such as the Solidarity Pedal, we can encourage, on the one hand, the practice of sport in society, while at the same time contributing together to the promotion of corporate social responsibility projects linked to cycling,” said Manuel Fernández.
For his part, Alberto Contador said that: “one more year we are very grateful to Cofidis for its donation. Thanks to this collaboration, we can continue to develop projects that help us to promote the practice of cycling among people with some type of functional diversity and allow us to have the necessary resources to help some new athletes reach their goals”.
