Cycling exhibition in Cuenca on the occasion of the sixth Granfondo Alberto Contador
On 2 May, a spectacular cycling exhibition entitled ‘History on Wheels’ was inaugurated in Cuenca, at the Aguirre Cultural Centre, in which for the first time the nine jerseys with which Alberto Contador has won his nine grand tours by stages, 3 Tours de France, 3 Giro of Italy and 3 Vuelta of Spain, can be seen for the first time.
This exhibition, which will be open until 29 May, coinciding with the celebration of the 6th Alberto Contador Race, also brings together a large collection of historic jerseys of riders such as Agustín Tamames, Bernard Hinault, Alberto Fernández, Sean Kelly, Alex Zülle and Marco Pantani. In addition, some bicycles will be on display, such as the Specialized with which Alberto Contador won his last Giro d’Italia or with which Fabian Cancellara won the Paris-Roubaix.
The Alberto Contador Foundation has organised this exhibition with the collaboration of cycling collector David Martín and Specialized, and it is part of the events parallel to the 6th Alberto Contador Ride, which this year will also hold a junior ride, especially dedicated to the youngest riders.
Already 700 registered
The start of the 6th Alberto Contador Race Walk will take place at 8:30 am on 29 May at Hermanos Becerril Street in Cuenca, where the finish line will also be located, next to the San Fernando Sports Centre, where participants will be able to shower after the race.
For the moment, the pace of registrations is very good and has already reached 700 participants, ready to cover the 196 kilometres of the route and to overcome the 2,660 metres of positive difference in altitude of this demanding route.
This year, after the start of the Senior Race, the youngest participants will also have the opportunity to carry out various activities with the bike in the starting area, where from 10 am the so-called Alberto Contador Junior Race will be held.
The sixth edition of the Alberto Contador March, which began in Pinto and then has become itinerant to try to reach all regions of the Spanish geography, has been made possible thanks to the support and collaboration of the City Council and the Provincial Council of Cuenca, as well as the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla La Mancha.
