Montero finished fourth, fighting for the third place in a popular category in which he is reaping very good performances. “The Ruta de la Teja is very pistera, very fast. I couldn’t hold off the front runners for long, I ended up riding in fifth place at a certain distance. Halfway through the race I climbed up to fourth place and in the last twenty kilometres I pushed hard when I saw that the podium was feasible. It was an agonising chase, but in the end I couldn’t cut the 17 seconds that separated us at the finish”.
