Idemticos’ #CyclingForAll, present in the ninth edition of Los Cien de Alto Rey

Idemticos project ambassador Alejandro Montero was one of the privileged participants of the ninth edition of the cycling race Los Cien de Alto Rey, which is organised every year in the Castilian-La Mancha town of Hiendelaencina, with a population of just over a hundred inhabitants.

The event, which takes place in the impressive scenic surroundings of the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara, presents a very interesting route which, among other objectives, seeks to highlight the value of enclaves of population which are linked to the phenomenon of Empty Spain. These are geographies in a Central System that are not particularly frequented or visited, and which have in the ascent to Alto Rey their great attraction.

The ascent to Alto Rey, or Montaña Sagrada de Alto Rey, offers almost seventeen kilometres of challenge from Molino de Villares. The first part of the ascent is a more gradual one, with some downhill sections; from kilometre 9 onwards, near the ruins of the so-called Casas del Corvacho, the ramps become much steeper.

At the so-called Alto de Las Corzas we take the turn-off to the summit, at an altitude of 1,770 metres, where an old 12th century hermitage and a much more modern television repeater await us: the last four kilometres are always steeper, with a gradient of over 9%.

It’s a festive and family-oriented walk. ‘It is a small event, a gathering of friends, but with a treatment and services for the participants that other events would like. There are 103 km through the ‘comanche’ Guadalajara, with hardly a flat kilometre. And the tough climb to the Alto Rey stands out’, says Alejandro.
