Jesus Alberto’s great commitment to Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA
The Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA project has once again received a generous donation from the Decathlon store located in Ortega y Gasset street in Madrid. This week there have been ten bicycles that Jesus Alberto, his workshop manager, has donated to the Alberto Contador Foundation so that they can enjoy a second life and a solidary employment through some of their different collaborations.
It is the third installment that Alberto promotes from the Ortega y Gasset store, a Decathlon centre from which the Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA project has received up to 26 bicycles. Although the program has a section where the different mounts are repaired and fine-tuned, in the case of all these contributions its state of preservation was unbeatable, supervised by the center’s own workshop.
“We are very grateful both to Jesus and to the Decathlon shop of Ortega y Gasset for the enormous commitment they maintain with Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA. They continue to collaborate with us and have become one of the main supporters of this project within Madrid. Their generosity has not allowed us to increase the distribution of bicycles”, explains Ángel López, in charge of logistics.
Jesus Alberto: “Since I work at Decathlon I have observed that many bikes that needed mechanical repair were forgotten. And other times, when customers bought a new bike they didn’t know how to get rid of it or where to take it. On the other hand I’m passionate about cycling, I’ve fallen in love with Alberto Contador’s attacks and I knew his sports career perfectly. And apart from that, I knew very well the tasks that were being carried out within the Alberto Contador Foundation. So when I arrived at Decathlon Ortega y Gasset I had the opportunity to contact them to carry out a collaboration in which we could give an answer to those bicycles that had an uncertain end and they could continue to feed on our donations to reach more needy groups every day. On a personal level, the work we are doing with the Foundation is a daily motivation, I am very satisfied with what we are doing and I am proud to be able to contribute a grain of sand to the work that the Foundation is doing”.
The Ortega y Gasset store was the first large-format store of the French chain in the centre of Madrid, a new commercial concept that opened a new path within Decathlon, until then with a greater presence on the outskirts of towns, through medium or large establishments located in shopping centres and parks. Inaugurated in November 2017, this store in Ortega y Gasset was the forerunner in a commitment by the French multinational to bring its centres closer to urban centres.
