The Contador Foundation also helps those affected by the Dana in Valencia

The enormous devastation caused by the effects of the Isolated High Level Depression (DANA) that hit the province of Valencia a week ago has left more than two hundred people dead, dozens missing and incalculable material damage that has left more than 70 towns and villages badly affected, especially Paiporta, Chiva, Aldaia, Pincanya, Sedaví, Benetússer, Alfafar and Catarroja, among others.

The Contador Foundation joins the dynamics of solidarity and support for the victims at different levels. In collaboration with the Pinto City Council and the Plaza Éboli Shopping Centre, the Plaza Éboli Cycling School is collecting material on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th from 17:30 to 19:30. The main needs at the moment are cleaning and hygiene products, masks, tins of tinned food and medicines.

The Contador Foundation, aware of the existing difficulties for travel and the suitability of a means such as the bicycle for logistics, launched through its project Bicis para la Vida by Škoda a special campaign for donations of unused bicycles to be destined to the population of the area. From the very beginning, the strong Valencian cycling movement has articulated a two-wheeled flow of aid. Juan Dual is one of its main activists. ‘We reach by bike where no one else reaches’, they point out.

The professional sports structure linked to the Contador Foundation, Team Polti Kometa, has a rider from the Valencian Community in its ranks. The sprinter from Alicante, Manuel Peñalver, a native of Torrevieja, has been involved as one more in the work of cleaning, debris removal and recovery of the Valencian town of Catarroja.
