The Valencian town of Oliva will host the seventh Granfondo Alberto Contador
The seventh edition of the Alberto Contador March will take place in the Valencian town of Oliva, after reaching an agreement with the hotel complex ‘Oliva Nova Resort’, which will host the start and finish of this cycling event on April 30.
The route of the VII Marcha Alberto Contador will be 197 kilometres, for a total of 2,150 metres of positive difference in altitude, although for those who prefer a more accessible route, another medium-distance route of 150 kilometres has been designed. From the start at the ‘Oliva Nova Resort’, the race will pass through the towns of Denia, Pego and Alcalí, with the latter featuring a climb of some 20 kilometres of uninterrupted ascent.
In addition to the Gran and Medio Fondo routes, a Junior March is planned for the youngest cyclists, as well as other parallel events including the exhibition ‘Sobre Ruedas’ (On Wheels) and training sessions in collaboration with the Isabel I University.
The ‘Bicis para la Vida’ project will also occupy an important place in the organisation of the Granfondo Alberto Contador, as the ‘Nova Oliva Resort’ complex will collect from today the bicycles that people want to donate to be delivered to institutions and countries that request them. The last action of ‘Bicis para la Vida’ has been the delivery of ninety bicycles in the Tessaout Valley, a particularly needy region of the Moroccan High Atlas.
Although Burgos had previously been announced as the host city for the VII Granfondo Alberto Contador, the impossibility of reaching an agreement with the city council of Burgos in time to hold the event, guaranteeing the usual standards for the participants, the organisation has decided to change the location to Oliva, where, in addition, the 2018 Alberto Contador March will also be held.
the 2018 March will also be held there. Next year’s edition will, however, offer different routes to continue with the itinerant formula that has characterised this event in recent years.
