Henar García replaces Francisco Romero as head of the Fundación Contador Social Area

Changes in the organisation chart of the Alberto Contador Foundation. Henar García (Madrid, 1980) is the new head of the social area of the institution after seven years of great work by Paco Romero, also from Madrid, at the head of this area. García joined her new role during the summer in order to, together with Romero, carry out a progressive and gradual transition which in the last few weeks has already been reflected in various actions of the projects promoted by the Foundation.

García, who holds a degree in Political Science and Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid, a degree in Journalism from the University Juan Carlos I and a Master in Protocol, Communication and International Relations from the Escuela Internacional de Protocolo, comes to the Contador Foundation from the Press Office of the City Council of Fuenlabrada. Previously, after a year in the Public Relations Department of Telefónica, she had developed her professional career for more than three and a half years in the Fundación Canal, an institution in whose Department of Legal Affairs, Human Resources and Institutional Relations she was very involved.

“I’m still on cloud nine, it’s not every day that you get an opportunity like this. I’m very proud to be able to work with Alberto, one of the great figures in Spanish sport,” says García. “I like physical activity, especially in its recreational, leisure and health-related aspects, and I am absolutely convinced that all the projects promoted by the Foundation have enormous potential. EnBici, Idemticos and Bicis para la Vida have a great potential to raise awareness in society and to contribute a huge grain of sand towards greater common well-being. It is an important task, although a lot has already been done in recent years. I am very grateful to Paco Romero for his help during our transition, he has allowed me to keep my finger firmly on the pulse of current affairs and now I have more elements of judgement to value even more the fabulous work done during his cycle at the head of the social area. I consider myself a very positive person, I like to approach problems as challenges, not obstacles, and I am looking forward to it”, he adds.

Facing his farewell, Romero says: “The seven years that I have been at the Contador Foundation have been a great experience both personally and professionally. A period that has marked my life, in which I have been fortunate to meet exceptional people, as well as having the chance to create, develop and promote wonderful projects that have left an indelible mark on my career and in my heart. I will always be grateful for the support, collaboration and friendship throughout these years. Now, I am very excited and motivated by the new professional challenges that lie ahead, but I will always carry with me the memories and friendships that I have formed here”.

The Contador Foundation was created with the dual aim of promoting cycling and raising awareness of stroke in society, with cycling as one of the fundamental tools for raising awareness. Under its umbrella, different sporting and social projects have come to light, such as the cycling tour, initially itinerant and currently starting and finishing in Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort (2011), the U19 team (2012), the training-educational action En Bici (2012), Bicis para la Vida (2012), the Plaza Éboli Cycling Academy (2013), the U23 team (2014), the professional team (2018) and the Idemticos initiative (2020).
