The Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN) warns that in the coming years the number of stroke cases will continue to rise in association with ageing and unhealthy habits of the population. The SEN indicates that some 110,000 people suffer a stroke every year in Spain, of whom at least 15 percent die and, among the survivors, around 30 percent are left in a situation of functional dependence.
In Spain, stroke is also the leading cause of death in women, the second in men and the leading cause of disability in both men and women: more than 350,000 people have some limitation in their functional capacity as a result of this disease.
