The Madrid Criterium will be a celebration of inclusive cycling with the presence of Idemticos

Cycling will once again take to the streets of Madrid this Sunday with the second edition of the Madrid Criterium, which proposes a diverse and inclusive day of frenetic competition with great national and international references in this sport. Sunday will start with the Madrid Paralympic Cycling Championships in which several of the ambassadors of the Idemticos project of the Contador Foundation will be present.

Eva Moral, Gonzalo García Abella (main star for the oficial poster), Álex Montero, Carlos Javier Mozos, Raúl Vallinot and Christian Silva will compete in the central circuit proposed by the organization around the Gran Via of Madrid, a route of just over one kilometre with uphill and downhill sections, two 180º turns at the heights of San Bernardo and Fuencarral streets and finish line next to the iconic Plaza de Callao.

The different classes will fight for the regional titles between 08:45 and 10:15. Carlos Javier Mozos will be one of the participants: “The initiative is very good. It’s not every day that you can compete in such an iconic setting as a circuit in the middle of Gran Vía. It is an extra motivation to do well in what, at least for me, will be the last race of the season. We have to thank, in this sense, the work done by the Madrid Cycling Federation and its Paralympic Cycling Commission”.

The head of this commission, Begoña Luis Pérez, points out: “The Madrid Criterium has always been committed to being an inclusive daThe head of this committee, Begoña Luis Pérez, points out: “The Madrid Criterium has always been committed to being an inclusive day, and in 2022 an inclusive relay was organised in which teams sponsored by professionals competed, including girls and boys from Madrid schools. This year, both the organisers and the Federation have decided to give it even more prominence with the holding of these championships, which will give Madrid Criterum an added bonus and make it an even better competition. At the last Super World Championships in Glasgow we were able to see how all disciplines coexisted, it is something that has come to stay and that the organisations include in their programmes. Often the question is oriented towards the benefits that these initiatives bring to people with disabilities, but we have to look at it the other way around, that is, how this group makes the values of this sport truly reflected in inclusion and coexistence”.
