The Italian Giovanni Lonardi, one of the six new faces of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team project for his second ride in the ProTeam category, wins the first race of the European cycling calendar in 2022.
First race, first victory. A dream start to the season for the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team. The professional squad supported by the Fundación Alberto Contador achieved this Sunday 23 January the victory in the Clássica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 by the Italian Giovanni Lonardi. The rider of Verona imposed his point of speed in an eventful finish where the crashes did of his own inside the final kilometre.
Between the Alicante town of La Nucia and the city of Valencia, 175 kilometres with a broken first part, with the passes through the Coll de Rates and the Coll de Barx, and a much more favourable and flat second part, close to the waters of the Mediterranean. The first day of the race was toughened up by adverse weather for a large part of the race.
Very good race of the whole block arranged by the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, represented in the first appointment of the continental calendar 2022 by the Portuguese Daniel Viegas, the Hungarian Marton Dina, the Spaniards Sergio García and Diego Pablo Sevilla and the Italians Vincenzo Albanese, Davide Bais, Mirco Maestri and Giovanni Lonardi. The blue squad also won the overall team race.
