Fundación Contador and Red Cross join forces to fight against stroke

Fundación Alberto Contador and Red Cross, through its regional delegation of Pinto and Valdemoro, begin a joint path to further progress in the prevention of stroke and its sequelae through awareness and information. Carlos Lúquez León, regional president of the Assembly of Pinto and Valdemoro, and Francisco Javier Contador, representing the Foundation, staged this Friday the signing of this agreement.

Through this cooperation, both institutions start a profitable collaboration for the organisation of activities, although not exclusively. At the forefront of this synergy is the forthcoming launch of a series of talks on stroke, its incidence and means of prevention, in which the bicycle will have a specific section as an ideal tool for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

These talks will take place in the new facilities of the Red Cross Assembly of Pinto and Valdemoro in the town of Pinto, a 600m2 enclosure on a single floor inaugurated in the last third of 2023 on land donated by the City Council of Pinto in mid-2016 that allowed to combine, and increase the spaces, the food warehouse, the relief base and the training centre of the institution.

“For the Red Cross in general, and the regional assembly of Pinto-Valdemoro in particular, we are proud and excited to start this joint venture with the Alberto Contador Foundation. And it is because of our shared values and objectives, which encourage and motivate us to undertake common actions that we believe can have a significant impact on the dissemination and awareness of issues related to the promotion of healthy lifestyles, as well as greater knowledge of a problem such as stroke among the population we serve,” explains Lúquez León.

“Our objective as a Foundation is twofold: on the one hand, to raise awareness of stroke and, on the other, to give back to cycling everything it has given Alberto in his life. The sporting aspect is very consolidated in terms of notoriety, because it is a sport that is more than a hundred years old. Knowledge of the problems posed by stroke, its symptoms and the most reliable means of prevention is still in progress. Much progress has been made, but there is never enough. With this collaboration with the Red Cross, we are going to take very important steps to deepen this knowledge, and also to do so in very specific geographical areas close to our closest radius of action”, adds Fran Contador.
