The Gran Fondo Alberto Contador presents its 2024 edition at FITUR

The fourteenth edition of the Total Energies Gran Fondo Alberto Contador started rolling this Wednesday at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid, the popular FITUR, with a presentation in society at the stand of the Comunitat Valenciana in which the mayoress and the councillor for Sports of the Valencian municipality of Oliva, Yolanda Pastor and Joan Mascarell, or Luis Borho, director of Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort and regular practitioner of the sport of two wheels, were present. A preview of the design of the jersey for this year’s edition, which will be held on 21 September, was on display at the event.

During the event, which was also attended by Alberto Contador, the growing importance of sporting events of this kind and their positive influence on the revitalisation and diversification of tourism were highlighted. “On a day like this, the important thing is not to arrive first. We are on a cycling tour and what we want is to enjoy the ride, the environment, the landscape and friends on an exceptional day and a party for everyone, cyclists and visitors,” said the cyclist from Madrid. “Oliva has been hosting the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador since 2016 and our City Council will continue to work to continue hosting top-level sporting events that can attract tourists and visitors to our city,” said Mayor Pastor.

The specific details of this year’s route will be confirmed at a later date, although the starting and finishing points will once again be located in the vicinity of Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort. In 2023, the organisers proposed a unique 146.4-kilometre route for this Gran Fondo, with more than 2,500 metres of accumulated height gain and passing through some of the area’s iconic climbs such as the Coll de Rates, the Coll de Sa Creueta and the ascent to Vall d’Ebo. If in 2023 the great guest was Purito Rodríguez, this year the personality to be honoured will be Pedro Delgado, winner of the Tour de France in 1988, double winner of the Vuelta a España (1985, 1989) and sports commentator. Alberto Contador also confirmed that he will take part in the 2024 edition of La Perico, on 11 August in Segovia.
