Bicis para la Vida by Škoda joins the inclusive initiatives of CEIP García Morente in Madrid

The Bicis para la Vida by Škoda van travelled to the Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas on Monday to deliver 26 bicycles to the García Morente Infant and Primary School, a specific action with an interesting double line of action given the cooperation of this school with the neighbouring Los Álamos Education Centre.

Fifteen of these bicycles will go to the educational project that the CEIP García Morente has been developing within the framework of the Physical Education sessions. Through these bicycles, and beyond the sporting activity itself, where some students do not have them at home and also learn to ride, the pupils will learn about the many possibilities offered by the bicycle. The geographical setting of the Entrevías Forest Park emerges as an important enclave for its development. In addition, a box of jerry cans, a box of helmets and an inflator pump have also been donated. Some of the donated bikes are now in their fifth life after having given very happy moments to Lucía, Inés, Tahiel and Paula.

In this sense, skills in handling and control will be developed, driving skills will be stimulated and knowledge of basic mechanics will be provided. It will also inculcate the fundamental regulations for correct circulation and better use as a vehicle. Among the ideas and objectives being worked on are the stimulation of the implementation of a cycling network in the neighbourhood, the introduction to a professional activity such as mechanics or a deepening of the suitability of the development of a more sustainable mobility.

In a very relevant pedagogical synergy, the CEIP García Morente collaborates with the neighbouring Centro de Educación Los Álamos in the development of its inclusive project ‘Sobre Ruedas’ (On Wheels), through which the students of the upper grades work in a mechanical workshop repairing, fixing and tuning bicycles. For this action, the Fundación Contador project provides eleven bicycles of different sizes (12″, 16″ and 20″) and partially assembled, from the large donations made by the firm Moma Bikes.
