The Gran Fondo Alberto Contador celebrates its 2022 edition with 2,500 participants and a great day in terms of weather to promote Les Valls after the fires of the summer

A large and colourful pack of 2,500 cyclists faced this fourth Saturday of September 2022 a great day of cycling tourism with the eleventh edition of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador and its proposal of two distances (Gran Fondo, 169 km; Medio Fondo, 122 km). A festive morning that will return to these roads in 2023, when it will be held on 23 September.

The event, with Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort as its nerve centre, faced some modifications to its route this year after the serious fires that affected the area last summer. For the event it had become a fundamental incentive to give visibility to the whole area both to help the people of Les Valls and to raise awareness of the need for a speedy recovery.

The Alto del Miserat, with its almost 6 kilometres at an average gradient of over 9%, was the great orographic attraction of a race in which, however, such is the orography of the inland area of Alicante, there were also climbs to manage such as Llosa Camacho, Coll de Rates, Sa Creueta, Fageca, Tollos and Vall d’Ebo.

“Everything went well, it was the perfect day to enjoy cycling. The weather was good and we enjoyed a great day of cycling in the company of all the cyclists who took part in both the Gran Fondo and the Medio Fondo”, said Alberto Contador after his participation.
