Ponferrada and Cazorla: double competitive front for Idemticos’ ambassadors in the cup competition

Ponferrada, as part of the start of the Spanish Paralympic Cycling Cup, and Cazorla, in the context of the Andalusia Masters Cup which also hosted the Spanish Cup of the modality, were the two geographical locations that this weekend counted with the presence and participation of some of the ambassadors of the Idemticos project of the Fundación Contador.

In Castille and León, Carlos Javier Mozos (MC1), winner in his category, Álex Montero (MC3) and Raúl Vallinot (MC3) were three times represented in the races that were held on a varied 3.1 kilometre urban circuit that also hosted a few years ago, in 2013, the World Road Cross Country Championships. “The least important thing was the result that could be achieved, in the end it hasn’t even been two months since I was in surgery. I ended up very happy because I’ve only been training for three weeks and the general sensations were always very good. It’s true that in the last two laps I felt the lack of rhythm and the Easter cakes; jokes apart, I’m happy to have seen myself with a race bib again, the pleasure of returning to the races and to be back with my teammates in Idemticos”, explained Mozos.

Montero, fifth in his category and current winner of the competition in the same category, said: “The feeling I had when I finished was a bit bittersweet. I felt pretty good, but the course was too fast for me, totally flat. The first group went away from me, but we managed to organise ourselves into a second group that was very well composed. The fact is that we had two laps to go and the next time we crossed the finish line we were stopped; it wasn’t possible to compete for fourth place in the race”.

Vallinot, for his part, put on a bib again after a long period of inactivity and that return in itself was a joy: “After more than a year without competing due to injury, returning to the Spanish Cup and doing so with the colours of the Idemticos project was a real pleasure. I still have some work to do, the discomfort still persists, but the pain doesn’t stop me from wanting to ride and, above all, to be with my team-mates. The Ponferrada circuit was very fast and very well signposted. The organisers did a great job, without them and their work it would not be possible for adapted sport to have its place in the RFEC competition calendar”.

In Andalusia, José Manuel ‘Patuky’ Dosdad took part in the Clásica Ciclista Ciudad de Cazorla, second race of the Spanish Masters Cup and third of the Andalusian Cycling Cup. The rider from Barcelona, who lives in Granada, completed the race with a very good feeling and very happy with the experience.

“When I go to races in the masters calendar, the main objective is to see how I am in shape, to get that little bit of competition and to enjoy myself. My idea for Cazorla was to arrive with the main group up to the pass and, once there, to take my place and finish. From the very start we were flying, we were doing more than 50 km/h until the start of the pass. I arrived well, physically fresh and with a very good feeling. On the climb to Santo Tomé, and once that objective was achieved, the only thing left to do was to finish. I thought this Clásica Ciudad de Cazorla was beautiful. And also difficult, demanding, with people who ride a lot and imposed a very high pace all day. Very happy”, he added.
