The Traffic Department and the Local Police of the Torrevieja’s City Council donate 60 bicycles to the Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA

The Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA project of the Contador Foundation travelled to Alicante to collect an important batch of bicycles donated by the Torrevieja City Council, through the Traffic Department headed by Federico Alarcón, and its local police.

It is a donation of 60 bicycles from the batch of bicycles withdrawn before the renovation of the Children’s Traffic Park. The City Council values the role played by Bicis Para la Vida by ŠKODA and highlights its potential to generate a transformative impact on society.

The delivery of these bicycles, carried out by the Councillor for Traffic, Federico Alarcón, gives vulnerable groups the opportunity to access an economical and sustainable means of transport. Many people in disadvantaged situations do not have the resources to purchase their own vehicle or to cover the costs associated with public transport.

This is not the first time that Bicis para la Vida by ŠKODA has received donations in Torrevieja. In 2019, as part of the Grand Depart of the Tour of Spain from the town, with its kilometre zero located in its famous salt flats, the Habaneras Shopping Centre promoted a campaign to collect donations with the collaboration of the Guardia Civil Command in the town, which finally resulted in a hundred bikes.

“The Foundation is very grateful for this donation because in the end it also has an important transformative social impact, allowing vulnerable groups to have access to mobility, opening up new opportunities for them. Bicycles can facilitate access to jobs, education and basic services, which helps to break the cycle of poverty and promote equal opportunities for social inclusion,” says Ángel López, head of logistics at the Foundation.

Now it is the turn of the APM boys and girls, who will start sorting all the material received over the next few days. Although most of the bikes are in good condition, some need to be repaired and reworked.
